My Approach to Dialogue

For many years, I have been spending a lot of time helping people engage in dialogue that helps them make smarter decisions, boost morale by building a sense of common purpose, learn about themselves and each other, and other important goals.

My co-authored book: The Little Book of Dialogue For Difficult Topics: A Practical Hands-on Guide, attempts to provide a brief but thorough written description of the different ways that
dialogue can be used to advance important organizational, community, group, or personal goals.
On this page, I will add video, audio, and the written excepts that can give you an understanding of
my opinions about dialogue, which I think is people’s most important technology for helping people learn more about themselves and their environment.

On a number of occasions, I have worked with a group called AmericaSpeaks on on very large scale meetings (up to 4,000 people) where everyone gets a chance to speak and listen. This video (about 8 minutes) explains a bit about how this is done, and highlights a 2006 meeting I co-faciitated.  Click here to view.

This video (about 3 minutes) explains the various elements of the AmericaSpeaks process for getting hundreds or thousands of people in productive dialogue. Click here to view.
